Comparing dates in jQuery, timestamp

This is my first time posting on stackoverflow. I’ve been a lurker for some time. This problem I am having is best described by the code:
$(“.dateColumn”).each(function(index, tbl) {
var myDate;
var refDate = new Date($(tbl).attr(“date”));

$(“.cell”).each(function(index2,tbl2) {
myDate = new Date($(tbl2).attr(“date”));
if (myDate == refDate){

This code is meant to highlight all the tds with a date less than the refDate. I have gotten it to work after creating a myDate variable. What I need to know is, what is the proper method to compare the refDate and myDate. My code is based on a previous post of mine, to which i’m adding the above code.
$(“.dateColumn”).each(function(index, tbl) {
var myDate = new Date($(tbl).attr(“date”));
var refDate = new Date($(tbl).attr(“date”));

$(“.cell”).each(function(index2,tbl2) {
if (myDate == refDate){

I don’t understand why these two methods don’t work. In fact, I am uncertain if I can even use a date in this way. Can someone please advise. Thank you!

You should convert the strings into date-formats.

What’s New In?

After being bought out by the Philadelphia Phillies in 1945, the Red Sox had a long, long, long wait until their next world title. Finally, in 1967, the Sox clinched it under Johnny Pesky, who had spent years on a boat in the Caribbean.

Pesky, who spent the offseason in St. Thomas with friends, was the more raucous drinker in the locker room. When it came time to answer questions following the game, Pesky refused to stop talking, and his pre-game dance, which he had perfected the previous year while on an ocean liner, was a crowd favorite.

During the Yawkey era (1919-1926), although the Sox certainly were capable of a World Series championship, the Sox failed to reach the Fall Classic. In the two years that both Yawkey and his young son and successor Robert were on the throne, the Sox went 2-7 in the Fall Classic.

There would be no more Red Sox/Yankees World Series; the commissioner’s office effectively ended the original National League’s experiment with separate divisions in 1969, until the league realigned into two six-team divisions in 1994.

The Mantle era was a busy one for baseball.

Mantle was the game’s biggest fan, and according to the “First-Third-Fifth-Away Fair Deal” he broke the Major League Baseball record in attendance, eclipsing the then-record of 1,433,527 set by the St. Louis Cardinals in 1935.

In his five-year tenure with the Yankees, Mantle played in four World Series, winning two of them. He was easily the greatest player of his era, and at the end of his career he stood among the top five. He caught the attention of the military and in 1949 was inducted into the US military service, serving in the Korean War.

The Mantle era saw the Yankees move into their famed new ballpark, Yankee Stadium.

The franchise had played its home games in the same city since 1890, but Yankee Stadium was built at a cost of $11 million. The Yankees were paying for themselves. Mantle, nearing the end of his career, liked to call the stadium “his house,” and the “Mantle Walk” was constructed so fans could see the left fielder as they entered the stadium.

Mantle died in 1995.
